"...try looking in www.opensound.com, or the hardware manufacturers site for the drivers . "

-----------------------------------

-the "PC" hardware manufactureres' ARE the problem unfortunately. !
-and we are ALL going to need an openvideo.com, and an openTVSTREAM.com, and an openblueray.com, and a .... pretty soon too. :)
ya,
...well we may be in for years of grey-area legalities by the time Sun\OpenSolaris has all the same features as per say Windows, or Apple.
ie. Blueray movie watching,... and consumers won't want to wait years -this will have to be built into OpenSolaris and soon !
So who will work with Sun on that ? "CyberStink" ?, WinDVD? ...or should they completely re-write their own media-apps for OpenSolaris ?,..., and if so who is gonna build the media-hardware for opensolaris ? sun ?, intel ?, ati ?, nvidia ?, analog devices ?, ....
What about sony and their paranoid css encryptions ? when will ALL 'ix users' be able to "affordably" watch\listen to movies, music... that they purchase in HD quality on their own Home PC's ? These, any many others are all potentially e$pensive questions !

How much $$$ will all that cost Sun\OpenSolaris? can Sun\OpenSolaris give the average end-user a better yet cheaper equal PC experience by matching the likes of Microsoft and/or Apple on in the worlds' PC market ?

I for one darn well hope so !? and things like Sun's ZFS,... are more than proof enough that Sun still has the "MUSCLE" to do it. -and maybe also the fact that the "server" and "client" market are becoming more and more transparent and less separate, and I do mean in a very "HARDWARE" sense.

I have used the same OS as a pocket-sized period over a dual bootable with Windows. But there is little bit compatibility issue.

So basically, you wrote a bit about the installation, mentioned the Mozilla suite and gave your very short opinion on what the regular people need... That's your view of a praise of an operating system?

...and you got the space on opensolaris.com front page?

Whoah.
